INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Michigan State track & field reached the podium seven times Saturday on the final day of the Big Ten Indoor Championships at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis.
"We are learning and growing in the new conference. The bar is higher than previously," Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Lisa Breznau said. "I think our women had a meet that helps them see the possibility of creating some momentum. Our men will continue to get better as well. It's incredibly important that we show up and compete to our capabilities on both sides. We left some points out there; our goal for outdoor will be to work towards those points."
After leading the MSU distance medley relay team to a second-place finish on Friday, Rachel Forsyth continued her strong showing at her first B1G Indoor Championships. She finished fifth in the highly-competitive 3000m with a time of 9:11.99. Washington's Amina Maatoug won the event title, crossing the line in 9:09.06. Sophia Lucki (9:20.67) and Sarah Forsyth (9:21.08) finished 18th and 19th, respectively. Sarah Forsyth set a new PR in the race.
The Spartans scored nine points in the women's mile thanks to top eight finishes from Kate Stewart-Barnett and Olivia Millen. Stewart Barnett finished fourth in 4:42.05, while Millen was right behind earning a fifth-place finish in 4:42.49.
Shae Harbaugh was not content just making the final in the 600m on Friday. With a new personal best, she finished sixth with a time of 1:30.36.
On the men's side, Logan Allen also continued his excellent meet after reaching the final in the 60m hurdles on Friday. USC's Johnny Brackins set the Big Ten meet record finishing first in 7.49. With a strong race, Allen finished sixth in 7.86.
In his B1G Indoor Championships debut, Dillon Morlock made the most of his chances, finishing fifth in the shot put. He set a new personal best with a throw of 18.92m.
In the final men's event of the meet, the Michigan State 4x400m relay team of Noah Sage, Cameron Cheetam, Henry Schaieb and Alex Yon finished seventh with a time of 3:12.04. It was the fastest 4x400m by the Spartans this season.
The Michigan State women finished ninth with 32 points, while the men were 15th with nine points. Oregon's men and women capture their first Big Ten Indoor titles with 106 and 131 points, respectively.
