EAST LANSING, Mich. - Due to storms in the Jacksonville area, Michigan State Track & Field had its first day at the NCAA East First Round shortened on Wednesday.
Joshua DeVries got the Spartan men started in the hammer throw. Competing in the third flight, he had his longest throw on the first attempt, reaching 62.77m. He was unable to reach the final and finished 22nd. Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan of Ole Miss finished first with a throw of 74.51m.
Trevin Phillips began the javelin competition after 2:30 p.m. After all the weather delays, the javelin was not completed until after 11 p.m. On his third throw, he reached his best throw of 62.91m. Georgia's Moustafa Alsherif finished first with a throw of 75.02m.
Colby and Dillon Morlock will now compete in the shot put on Thursday beginning at 12:30 p.m. after the schedule was adjusted.
The women will take center stage on Thursday with eight athletes in action in five events. Due to the weather, field events will get things started with the hammer at 8 a.m. with Elle Adrian and Valadian Pallett in competition. Adrian earned indoor All-American honors in the weight throw earlier this year. Freshman sensation Rachel Forsyth is seeded 12th in the quarterfinals of the 1500m. She and Olivia Millen will race at 6 p.m. Forsyth is in the second heat, while Millen is in the third.Â
