No. 15 Gymnastics Travels to No. 10 Michigan Sunday

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -Â No. 15 Michigan State gymnastics (1-4, 0-2 B1G) travels to Ann Arbor to take on 10th-ranked Michigan (4-1, 1-1 B1G) on Sunday, Feb. 1 at 4 p.m. inside the Crisler Center.
Sunday's meet will air nationally on the Big Ten Network with Olivia Karas and Dean Linke on the call.
LEADING OFF
MSU earned its highest ranking of the regular season so far, No. 15, with a team average of 196.267 in this week's RoadtoNationals rankings. The Spartans put up a season-high 196.900 in a 197.425-196.900 loss to then-No. 5 UCLA in MSU's home opener at the Breslin Center last weekend in front of a program-high 9,887 fans. MSU also set season highs on vault (49.300) and floor (49.350) while tying a season-high 49.275 on beam against the Bruins. MSU's 49.350 on floor was its highest score on any event so far in 2026.
In the team event rankings, MSU sits inside the top 25 on three events - No. 12 on vault (49.092 average), No. 10 on beam (49.175) and No. 18 on floor (49.158). Individually, senior Sage Kellerman ranks 19th in the NCAA on bars with a 9.883 average, while senior Nikki Smith 15th on floor nationally (9.900).Â
Kellerman earned podium finishes on both vault and bars against UCLA with a season-high 9.925 on vault to finish second and a 9.875 on bars to earn a tie for third. Smith posted a team and season-high 9.925 on beam to finish third on the event and tied with teammate MaKayla Tucker with a 9.925 to earn a share of second on floor. Smith also finished as the runner-up to Jordan Chiles in the all-around with a season-high 39.400.
Sophomore Cady Duplissis put up a career-high 9.900 on vault against UCLA to finish third and freshman Lilia Cosman anchored the MSU beam lineup with a career-high 9.900 against the Bruins.
SCOUTING MICHIGAN
Michigan is 10th in this week's RoadtoNationals rankings with a 196.792 team average and 4-1 overall (1-1 B1G) record under first-year head coach Maile'ana Kanewa-Hermelyn. The Wolverines are coming off of a 196.775-195.600 home win over Iowa on Jan. 24.
The Wolverines also rank 16th on vault (49.025), ninth on bars (49.233), fifth on beam (49.375) and 18th on floor (49.158).Â
MSU and U-M met twice last season, with MSU earning a 197.500-196.975 victory at home on Jan. 17 before finishing second ahead of fourth-place Michigan at the 2025 Big Ten Championships. The Spartans and Wolverines also met earlier this season at the Sprouts Collegiate Quad, where U-M finished first with a season-high 197.225 and the Spartans finished third (196.225). MSU is 6-2 against the Wolverines dating back to the 2023 season, its two losses coming at the 2023 Big Ten Championships and at this season's Sprouts Collegiate Quad.
The Spartans began their win streak against the Wolverines on Jan. 22, 2023, with an upset victory over then-No. 3 U-M inside Jenison Field House, which was MSU's first victory over the Wolverines since Feb. 3, 2007. The following year, MSU earned a 198.050-197.625 win at the Crisler Center for its first win against the Wolverines in Ann Arbor since the 1990 Big Ten Championships. Then-sophomore Sage Kellerman scored a perfect 10.000 on vault
in that meet.
Two of MSU's top four all-time team overall scores have come in the Crisler Center. MSU scored its second-highest team score in program history and highest-ever road score with a 198.150 at last year's Big Ten Championships in Ann Arbor and also scored the fourth-best score in program history (198.050) at U-M on Feb. 4, 2024. The Spartans have reached the 198.000 team score mark a total of five times in program history, with two of those five scores coming at the Crisler Center.
