Morlock’s School Record Highlights Opening Weekend for the Outdoor Track & Field Season

EAST LANSING, Mich. – In the first week of the outdoor track & field season, Michigan State's track & field team was charged by an outstanding performance from Spartan throwers, spearheaded by thrower Dillon Morlock breaking the school record in the men's shot put.
Friday Action
The Spartans soared Friday evening, earning seven top-five finishes, with Spartan throwers highlighting the day for MSU. In the men's shot put, thrower Dillon Morlock stood atop the podium, claiming a first-place finish and breaking the previous school record of 19.80m, with his throw of 20.07m. Morlock was joined alongside his brother, Colby Morlock, who finished third in the men's shot put with a throw of 18.50m. Dylan Terryberry finished third in the men's javelin throw, setting a new personal best throw of 62.06m, which places him sixth on the MSU all-time list.
In the men's pole vault, junior Sean Mullen finished in fourth place with a vault of 4.85m with fellow teammate Landon Cosby finishing three spots behind in seventh place with a vault of 4.70m. The Spartans then earned three top-20 finishes in the men's long jump behind Andrew Harding, Dylan Terryberry, and Carter Bissell. Harding finished seventh with a throw jump of 7.29m, Terryberry finished 16th with a jump of 7.04m, and Bissell finished two spots below Terryberry in 18th with a jump of 69.96m.
On the women's side, Tess Roman finished second in the women's javelin throw with a throw of 50.43m, which was the second longest throw in MSU history. The Spartan woman obtained four top-20 finishes in the women's hammer throw, with Elle Adrian leading the charge finishing third with a throw of 57.83m. Junior Jessica Stieb finished sixth with a new personal best throw of 54.52m, with sophomores Rylan Finstrom (51.39m) and Margaret Jones (49.32m) finishing in 15th and 17th, respectively. Stieb (15.63m) and Jones (14.89m) then went on finished the women's shot put in third (Stieb) and eight (Jones), earning top twenty finishes in consecutive events. Saturday's action was propelled by Sophia Mettes, who finished third in the women's pole vault with a vault of 3.85m, just .17m away from cracking the top 10 MSU all-time list. Roman had a busy weekend of events, including finishing the women's 100m hurdles in 15.37. In the women's 400m dash, Alexys Wilson compiled a sixth-place finish, crossing at 54.31. Korin Whitcomb earned the Spartans another top ten finish, finishing 10th in the women's high jump, vaulting 1.70m at her highest jump, just .03m away from setting a new personal best throw. To end the weekend for the Spartans, the women's 4x400m relay team of Elizabeth Anderson, Alexys Wilson, Gabrielle Jeffries, and Tess Roman finished in tenth, crossing the finish line at 3:46.97.
On the men's side of action, senior Brady Schultz guided the men's team, placing second in the men's high jump with a jump of 2.15m., eclipsing his own personal best jump of 2.14m and etching himself into fourth on the all-time MSU list. Terryberry finished 15th in the men's 110m hurdles, crossing at 15.24. The men's 4x100m relay team of Drew Novak, Carter Bissell, Andrew Harding, Cameron Cheetam, and Noah Sage finished ninth, crossing the finish line at 40.93, just .31 seconds away from the tenth fastest time in MSU history.
Throwers Dalton DeBeau and Dillon Morlock each earned top 15 finishes in the men's discus throw, with DeBeau finishing fourth with a throw of 53.24m, and Morlock finishing eleventh with a throw of 47.91m. Michigan State will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina next weekend to compete in the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State University. The Raleigh Relays will begin on Thursday, March 26th and will wrap up on Saturday, March 28th.
