Shane Wilkinson joined the Spartan volleyball staff in the spring of 2021 as its Director of Operations. He begins his 20th overall season in this role this fall.
Wilkinson served five seasons (2013-2017) as the Director of Operations at Indiana University where he oversaw the entire logistical landscape of the volleyball program including team travel, community outreach, marketing and promotions, equipment and apparel orders, alumni network, home tournaments, budgeting, non-conference scheduling and managed incoming student-athletes’ successful transition to college. Additionally, he assisted with on-campus recruiting while running the program’s statistical analysis and video breakdown via DataProject. In addition to his day-to-day responsibilities, he served as the primary program liaison to various departments within IU Athletics including marketing, sports medicine, media relations, business operations, event management, compliance and administration. In 2014, the Hoosiers were named the Program of Excellence Team of the Year for their extensive community outreach work. He was also the Camp Operations Director for Indiana Volleyball Camps LLC.
Before he moved to Bloomington, Wilkinson was the Director of Operations at the University of South Carolina for the 2011 and 2012 seasons where he helped the Gamecocks secure the 2012 Life Skills Team of the Year accolade. Before his brief stint in Columbia, Wilkinson served as the first-ever Director of Operations in program history at Ohio State University for three seasons (2008-2010) where the Buckeyes appeared in two NCAA Tournaments – reaching the Sweet 16 in 2010. Wilkinson’s collegiate career started at Ball State University, serving as the Administrative Assistant for the Women’s Volleyball program for four seasons. The Cardinals won the Mid-American Conference West Division Championship during Wilkinson’s first season in Muncie.
Outside of collegiate volleyball, Wilkinson spent one year (2018) in the Office of Compliance Services at Indiana University where he served as Assistant Director overseeing Initial Eligibility. Wilkinson transitioned to non-profit work serving as a Resource Development Associate at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington for two years. Here, Wilkinson assisted with multiple revenue generating ventures for the Club that ultimately raised $2.8 million and $2.7 million in 2019 and 2020, respectively. Additionally, he orchestrated Bloomington’s first virtual event in the COVID-era and raised more than $80,000 in a single evening to support the Club’s world-class youth development programs. Finally, Wilkinson oversaw all marketing avenues for the Boys & Girls Club, and also revitalized the Club’s branding initiatives and social media presence.
He earned a Bachelors from Ball State in Telecommunications-News Emphasis in 2008. Wilkinson furthered his education by earning his Masters of Sport Administration from the prestigious College of Business at Ohio University in 2020.
Wilkinson is married to the former Jennifer Hamilton, the Director of Athletic Training for Michigan State Athletics.
