Spartan Volleyball Defeats Western Michigan

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - No. 18 Michigan State defeated Western Michigan, 15-9, 15-9, 15-7, on Wednesday night in Grand Rapids' Van Andel Arena. Jenna Wrobel, leading the nation in kills at 5.73 per game, had 22 kills to lead both teams.
After going up 1-0 in game one, sophomore Jessica Sanborn served eight straight points, including three service aces to put the Spartans up 9-0. Wrobel tallied eight kills in the game.
Game two saw Western Michigan tie the game at seven and nine before MSU scored six-straight points to win the game. Wrobel again had the hot hand with 10 kills and two blocks.
The third game was never in doubt as Michigan State pulled out to a 9-1 lead and cruised to a 15-7 victory.
Erin Hartley was the only other Spartan in double figures with 10 kills. She also led the team with 11 digs. Setter Christie Landry had another strong outing with 44 assists, two kills, eight digs and three blocks.
Michigan State is now 15-4 overall. Western Michigan falls to 15-9. The Spartans host Northwestern on Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. and Indiana on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 8 p.m. in Jenison Field House.
