Spartan Volleyball Recaptures State Pride Flag

EAST LANSING, Mich. - It took five games, but Michigan State finally downed the Wolverines, 3-2, in Jenison Field House on Wednesday night in front of a season-high 1,732 fans. The Spartans won back the State Pride flag with a six games to two advantage.
The Spartans cruised in games one and two, winning 15-8, 15-3. Michigan made a setting change in game three and went on to defeat MSU, 15-10 to stay in the match. After hitting .588 in game two, Michigan State fell apart and hit only .023 in game three. The Wolverines used their game three momentum to steal another game and tie up the match at 2-all. Michigan State found its rhythm in the tiebreaker and hit .643 to take the match with a 15-9 win.
"You have to give Michigan credit," said head coach Chuck Erbe. "They played hard and did some things to throw us off. It took us three games to adjust."
Jenna Wrobel led all hitters once again with 23 kills but hit only .200. Erin Hartley joined Wrobel in double figures with 11 kills on .391 hitting with a match-high 16 digs, while Sarah Gustin led MSU to a 15-8 blocking advantage with eight block assists.
The Spartans are now 18-4 overall, 10-3 in the Big Ten Conference. Michigan falls to 12-11 overall, 4-9 in the Big Ten.
