Spartan Volleyball Shoots Down the Hawkeyes

East Lansing, Mich. - The No. 21 Michigan State volleyball team defeated Iowa, 15-11, 15-9, 15-8, on Friday, Oct. 23 in Jenison Field House.
Entering the match at 0-8 in the Big Ten Conference, the Hawkeyes still fought hard and stayed with the Spartans throughout the match. With MSU up 14-8 in game one, Iowa fought back to 14-11 before falling. The Spartans fell into a 1-4 hole in game two before coming back for the victory and in game three, with a 10-0 lead, the Hawkeyes still would not die, fighting back to 14-8, before succumbing.
As a team, Michigan State hit .360 and outblocked Iowa 14-6. Jenna Wrobel led all scorers with 21 kills as one of three Spartans in double figures with a season high hitting percentage of .545. Wrobel added five kills and five blocks. Erin Hartley tallied 11 kills, while Sarah Gustin scored 10 kills to go along with five digs and a game-high nine blocks.
Michigan State is now 13-4 overall, 6-3 in the Big Ten Conference. Iowa falls to 6-12 overall, 0-9 in the Big Ten. The Spartans return to action on Saturday night as they host No. 5 Wisconsin.
