Volleyball Clips Hawkeyes in Regular Season Finale

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The 14th-ranked Spartans defeated Iowa, 15-9, 15-11, 15-13 in their last regular season match on Saturday night in Iowa City.
Michigan State jumped out to a 9-0 lead in game one and held the Hawkeyes at bay to cruise to a 15-9 win.
The Spartans jumped out to another big lead in game two at 6-0 before Iowa scored its first point. Up 9-1, MSU withstood a six-point rally by the Hawkeyes and forced several Iowa hitting errors to take the game, 15-11.
The Hawkeyes showed their mettle in gmae three by taking a 4-0 lead and continued to hold the Spartans. Down 7-11, MSU used three Iowa hitting errors, a kill by outside hitter Jenna Wrobel and block assists by Wrobel and Maren Witzel to take its first lead of the game at 12-11. Iowa promptly scored two quick points to regain the lead but then made a hitting error to allow MSU a 13-13 tie. Sarah Gustin sealed the game and the match with two service aces.
Wrobel led all hitters with 16 kills while Sarah Gustin and Jenny Whitehead each tallied 10. The Spartans outblocked Iowa 13.5-6.
The Spartans are now 23-6 overall and finish the Big Ten season in third place at 15-5. Iowa falls to 9-20 overall, 3-17 in the conference.
Michigan State begins NCAA Tournament play next weekend.
