EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State Universitys womens volleyball team signed Kyla Smith, a 5-11 outside hitter from Comox, British Columbia, during the February signing period. Smith, currently in her 13th year at Highland Senior Secondary, will join the Spartans as a freshman in the fall of 1999. She has earned athlete of the year honors in each of the last three seasons and was named first-team all-provincial. Her club team, Powell River Volleyball Club, won the British Columbia Club Championship in 1998.
"Im please to have an athlete of Kylas stature join our program," said Michigan State head coach Chuck Erbe. "She is a tremendous natural athlete with a long and varied sports background. Kyla will provide an impact on the outside and is an excellent attacker who will add depth to our outside hitting corp."
