Gustin Named Volleyball Academic All-District

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The 2000 Verizon Academic All-District IV University Division Women's Volleyball Team was announced on Wednesday. Michigan State's Sarah Gustin, a senior outside hitter, was named to the second team. It is the first time she has earned All-District academic honors.
The district team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve, and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.
The Verizon Academic All-District Team is part of the Verizon Academic All-America program. First-team selections will appear on the national ballot for the Verizon Academic All-America Women's Volleyball Team.
Gustin, who maintains a 3.74 average in communication, has started all four years for Michigan State at middle and outside hitter. A two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, she leads the team this season at 4.24 kills per game and is hitting .328 on the year. Gustin is seventh all-time at State with 1,180 kills, ranks fifth on the all-time hitting percentage list at .298 and is fifth in block assists (316) and total blocks (390). She has nine 20-kill matches this season and 17 in her career, fourth-best in Spartan history.
