Volleyball Defeats Hofstra

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Michigan State defeated Hofstra, 15-11, 13-15, 15-5, 15-11 on Friday, Sept. 15 in its opening match of the San Diego Invitational.
Senior outside hitter Sarah Gustin led the Spartans with 21 kills and six blocks. Freshman outside hitter Amy Sibbernsen added 16 kills, a team-high 13 digs and a career-high five blocks in the match. Senior setter Christie Landry tallied 58 assists and nine digs, while classmate Jessica Sanborn tagged 14 kills to go with five digs and three blocks.
Michigan State hit .290 to Hofstra's .160 and outblocked the Pride 14-6.
The Spartans are now 5-2 on the season. MSU plays Georgetown at 10 a.m. PST on Saturday and host San Diego at 7 p.m.
