Volleyball Kills Michigan in State Pride Part I

East Lansing, Mich. - The 17th-ranked Michigan State volleyball team defeated No. 21 Michigan 11-15, 15-11, 15-13, 6-15, 15-5 on Wednesday night in Jenison Field House. The Spartans raise their record to 8-2 overall while Michigan falls to 8-2.
Spartan setter Christie Landry posted the first triple-double for Michigan State since 1996 with 11 kills, 48 assists and 14 digs.
Michigan won game one behind eight kills from Sarah Behnke. Game two belonged to MSU as middle Angela Morley hit five kills on .667 hitting and middle Jessica Sanborn added seven kills at a .583 clip. Michigan raced out to the lead in game three but the Spartans battled back behind four kills from Landry. The Wolverines were led by six kills from Joanna Fielder in the game. Michigan dominated the fourth game as Behnke added five kills and U of M won 15-6. The Spartans came out hot in game five and took a decisive 8-1 lead before cruising to ta 15-5 win.
The Spartans tallied a season-high 16 blocks to UM's two and saved a season-high 89 digs. Katrina Lehman solved MSU's serve-receive with six service aces, one shy of tying the Jenison Field House record. Freshman outside hitter Amy Sibbernsen and Jessica Sanborn both put up double-doubles with 14 kills-17 digs and 12 kills-18 digs, respectively. The digs marks were career highs for both players.
The Spartans travel to Ohio State for a Friday, Sept. 22 7 p.m. match.
