WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - No. 20 Michigan State soundly beat Purdue, 15-5, 15-6, 15-8 in West Lafayette on Friday, Sept. 29. The Spartans raise their record to 9-3, 2-1 in the Big Ten, while Purdue falls to 8-7 overall, 0-3 in the conference.
Senior outside hitter Sarah Gustin tagged career kill No. 1,000 in the second game. She is the 10th player in Spartan history to reach the mark. Gustin ended the match with a team-high 18 kills on .389 hitting with seven digs and four blocks.
Junior outside hitter Erin Hartley pulled herself out of a season-long slump with a season-high 15 kills while hitting .480. Jessica Sanborn also had a solid match with 10 kills, five blocks and five digs, while senior setter Christie Landry directed a smart offensive attach with 51 assists, four kills and eight digs.
The Spartans hit .393 to Purdue's .125 and outblocked the Boilermakers 11-5. It was the third-best hitting percentage of the season for MSU.
Michigan State travels to Champaign, Ill. for a Saturday, 7 p.m. CT match with the Illini.
