EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State has hired a new assistant volleyball coach to replace the recently departed Laura Abbinante. Daune Koester will join head coach Chuck Erbe and assistant Todd Dagenais on staff beginning Feb. 5.
"I am very excited to have Ms. Daune Koester join the Michigan State volleyball coaching staff," said Chuck Erbe. "She brings a great blend of both playing and coaching success to our program. Her immediate job responsibilities will include national recruiting, team preparation and summer camp director."
Koester comes to MSU after two seasons as the assistant volleyball coach at Georgetown University. While with the Hoyas, Koester was responsible for recruiting, travel coordination and served as the strength coach. Georgetown tallied a 43-18 record, won the Big East Tournament and appeared in the NCAA Tournament during her stint there.
Before beginning a career in coaching, Koester played professionally and served as the head coach for the Franches-Montagnes Volleyball Program in Switzerland.
Koester was Maryland's team captain in 1995 and 1996 and holds the record for most kills in a match. While there, the Terrapins put together a 19-0 conference record, won the ACC crown in 1996 and '97 and made three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances from 1995-97. She also served as a student assistant for the volleyball team, helping to organize and coach summer camps.
