EAST LANSING, Mich. - Kim Schram had a match-best 19 kills to go along with four digs, two blocks and a service ace in Michigan State volleyball's 3-0 win against Indiana in Jenison Field House Friday. The Spartans posted game scores of 30-24, 30-23, 30-23 to win the match and move their record to 14-7 overall and 6-5 in the Big Ten. Indiana is now 9-13 overall and 2-9 in the league.
As a team, MSU hit .336 in the match, including a .436 percentage in the third game (20K-3E-39TA), while the Hoosiers had a team attack percentage of .219 on the night. The Spartans also had 12 blocks to Indiana's 6.5 in the game.
"We felt good going into tonight," said head coach Chuck Erbe. "We had a good week of practice and just played tonight. We played through everything and stayed aggressive all night. Even when we made an error, we kept going. We also blocked well, with six solo blocks; that puts a lot of pressure on their hitters. We did a good job of staying with their hitters. I thought it was just a good, solid effort on the part of each of the 10 players we put on the floor."
Jenny Rood had 10 kills for the Spartans and added four blocks, including two solos. Nikki Colson contributed 46 assists, seven digs and four blocks, one solo and three block assists. Mickey Davis served three aces, and served MSU to 11 points on the night. Sophomore Megan Wallin aded eight kills, three digs and three block assists.
"When we focus on what we need to do, it's almost easy out there," said Schram. "We were so in synch out there tonight. We just need to stay focused on what we need to be, and not worry about what everyone else on the floor is doing."
Monique Pritz led Indiana with 13 kills. Pritz and teammate Melissa Brewer each posted four block assists in the match, all of which came in the second game, while Brewer also added 10 kills.
The Spartans host Purdue (12-10, 5-6 Big Ten) Saturday at 8 p.m. in Jenison Field House. Purdue lost, 3-2, at Michigan Friday night.
