EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State volleyball coach Chuck Erbe has promoted assistant coach Todd Dagenais to associate head coach effective immediately. Dagenais serves as recruiting coordinator while also assisting in travel, sports camps and the training of outside and middle hitters.
"I'm very happy for Todd," said Erbe. "He is a valued assistant and has earned this new title. He is deeply committed to and a hard worker for the Spartan volleyball program."
Dagenais, who spent the previous four seasons (1999-2002) as an assistant coach, returned to Michigan State after working as an assistant at Northern Michigan University for the 1998 season, where he served as recruiting coordinator, while also managing the academics of student-athletes. He was the volunteer assistant at Michigan State in 1997.
"I'm very appreciative and humble to receive this promotion," said Dagenais. "The associate head coach title at Michigan State is not used loosely around here. I think of (men's basketball coach) Tom Izzo and how much work and effort that he put in as an assistant coach, and I'm very humbled to be able to have this title.
"It's is very good for the Spartan volleyball program, especially since I serve as the point person for recruiting. Having someone in this position puts the Michigan State program in line with the other top programs in the country."
Dagenais spent much of the 2002 offseason working as an assistant coach with Team USA, both at the Colorado Springs training facility and abroad. In May, Dagenais accompanied the U.S. squad to Japan for a seven-match Challenge Cup. In the summer of 2001, Dagenais served as an assistant coach with the U.S. Junior National program. He also served as lead court coach and try-out coordinator for USA Volleyball at national try-out camps in 2000 and 2001, and as court coach in 1999.
From November 1997-March 1998, Dagenais coached the MSU women's club volleyball team, which was ranked in the top 10. From 1995-97, he was the head coach of the Valley Gold Elite Junior Volleyball Team. Dagenais, the co-founder of the team, which was the first female elite junior team in mid-Michigan, served on the board of directors and as the recruiting coordinator for a team that won two consecutive Michigan AAU State Championships.
Dagenais graduated from Central Michigan University in 1995 with a bachelor of science degree in sports medicine. A certified athletic trainer, he played on the Chippewa's men's club team for four years.
