Volleyball Falls In Three To Wisconsin

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Kim Schram and Michelle Kopka each had 10 kills as Michigan State volleyball fell to Wisconsin, 3-0 (27-30, 23-30, 26-30), in Jenison Field House on Friday. The Spartans are now 6-11 on the season and 1-8 in the Big Ten, while the Badgers move to 12-5 on the year and 6-3 in league play.
Meghan Schoen had eight kills on .235 hitting, while Brooke Langston added seven. Libero Marley Bellwood posted 17 digs on the night to go along with an assist. Kopka had 11 digs, three blocks, an assist and a service in addition to her 10 kills, and Schram had a team-best five blocks. Maggie Griffin posted 39 assists and two kills, plus three digs and a block assist. Jessica Hohl posted four kills on .571 hitting, as she came off the bench in the third game of the match.
Wisconsin out-hit the Spartans, .246 (49K-18E-126TA) to .131 (46K-28E-137TA), including posting a .400 attack percentage in the second game.
In the first game, Kopka posted four kills and four digs, while Schram and Schoen added three blocks apiece. Griffin recorded assists on 14 of State's 17 kills in the game. Wisconsin's Jill Odenthal had a game-high six kills, and UW setter Jackie Simpon had 13 assists in the game. State hit .174 to the Badgers' .262.
The Spartans were close throughout the second game, until UW made a late run on a serves from Jocelyn Wack, which stretched the Wisconsin lead to 26-21. MSU's Schram had four kills, while Kopka, Langston and Schoen each had three in the game.
State kept the final game of the night close throughout, and was tied with the Badgers as late as 26 before Odenthal closed out the game and the match. Schram had three kills in the game, while Hohl led MSU with her four kills in the game. Griffin had 12 assists, and Marley Bellwood had eight digs.
The Spartans face Northwestern on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. in Jenison Field House. Northwestern played at Michigan on Friday.
