Two Spartan Volleyball Players Earn All-Big Ten Accolades

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State volleyball's Kim Schram and Maggie Griffin earned All-Big Ten honors as the league office released its 2004 All-Big Ten teams Tuesday. Schram, a senior, was a unanimous first-team selection, while Griffin was named to the All-Big Ten Freshman team.
The honor marks the second consecutive year in which Schram earned first-team All-Big Ten accolades. Schram, a native of London, Ontario, finished her career at Michigan State ranked third on the all-time kills list (1,758), tied for seventh in block solos (82) and second in career kills per game (4.23). She began the year as an unanimous selection to the Big Ten Preseason Team in a vote of the league's coaches. Schram was ranked among the top three kills leaders in the Big Ten throughout the season, and finished the year averaging 5.08 kills per game in conference play, second only to Ohio State's Stacey Gordon (7.00). Additionally, Schram had 228 digs, 65 blocks and 35 service aces on the season.

Ohio State's Stacey Gordon was named Player of the Year, while Paula Gentil of Minnesota was named Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Kate Price of Penn State was voted the Freshman of the Year. The Big Ten coaches and media both voted Ohio State's Jim Stone as Coach of the Year.
The Spartans concluded their season at 12-16 overall and 7-13 in the Big Ten, an eighth-place finish.
