With the 2004 season quickly approaching, we sat down with junior co-captain Megan Wallin to find out how she spent her summer and her expectations for the year.
What was your favorite thing you did this summer?
I went to Belize with my mom; it was awesome.
What is your favorite part about coming back to Michigan State?
It's just the atmosphere of the school in the fall, and being around my teammates again. I'm excited for the fall semester to begin.
What is your major?
Merchandising management.
What is your dream job?
Right now, it's to play beach volleyball with Brooke and get a contract with Nike or Adidas.
How do you balance volleyball and classes?
It comes down to time management. You have to take advantage of the time that you have to do your schoolwork.
What is your favorite class you have taken at Michigan State?
I took a management class last summer, it was great.
...how do you see that class helping you in the future?
It gave me realistic stratagies and goals.
What are you looking forward to most about the 2004 season?
A fresh start, with fresh players.
What do you feel is going to be the hardest part of last year's team to replace?
That's hard to say. There were a lot of players who were good on the court, and it's hard to replace someone like Nikki Coloson who was a four-year starter.
Who else do you see stepping up this year?
Kim Schram.
What are your expectations for this team?
I expect we'll play hard every match, have fun and win a Big Ten Championship.
Do you feel any extra pressure because you are a captain?
No, I don't.
Why do you think you will be a good captain?
I think because I am laid back, and I am confident in myself and in our team.
What game do you look forward to the most this season?
When we go to South Carolina and play Southern California. That will be a big challenge, but a lot of fun.
What is your best volleyball memory in your career?
My favorite is from two years ago when we beat Penn State and Ohio State in the same weekend on the road.
What is the biggest benefit of being a student-athlete at MSU?
All the services we recieve like the Clara Bell-Smith Center. Plus, my team is so important to me. When you are on a team and spend so much time together, your team is your family.
What is your favorite sport to watch at MSU?
Men's basketball.
What is the one thing you couldn't live without?
My team.
