Former Okemos Volleyball Standout To Join Spartan Volleyball Team

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State University volleyball office has announced that Allison Ianni (Okemos, Mich./University of the Pacific), who spent the previous three seasons competing for the University of the Pacific volleyball squad, will transfer to Michigan State and will become eligible for play in January of 2006.
During her time competing at Pacific, Ianni appeared in 39 games during her freshman season, averaging 3.77 assists per game and 0.85 digs per game for the year. Setting a personal-best 22 assists vs. UC Davis during her sophomore campaign in 2004, Ianni entered the 2005 campaign competing for the Tigers' starting setter role. Her 113 games played, 134 kills and 1,358 assists (12.02 per game) were new career-bests for the junior, while her assists per game mark ranked her second in the Big West conference. An all-conference honorable mention honoree in 2005, Ianni will make an immediate impact on the Spartan offense.
"We are very excited to add Allison (Ianni) to our roster. Allison is an outstanding performer from a very tough Big West conference," Spartan head coach Cathy George said. "As we look ahead to our spring training this January, Allison's setting experience will have an immediate impact on our team and will help us improve offensively throughout our non-traditional segment."
Ianni was a three-year letterwinner in volleyball at Okemos leading her team to a combined 136-33-10 (.788) record. Allison earned All-Capital Circuit League First Team and All-State Second Team honors her junior and senior seasons, while receiving Lansing State Journal Player of the Year accolades following her senior campaign. An exceptional scholar-athlete, Ianni earned Academic All-State honors her senior year and was a National Honor Society inductee. At the club level, Ianni competed three years for the USA Michigan Runbirds.
Ianni hails from an athletic-oriented family as her mother was a three-sport letterwinner and an Academic All-American at Adrian College, and her father played baseball at Michigan State. Her father, Greg, is currently a Senior Associate Athletics Director for the Green and White.
