The duo of Katie Johnson and Nicole Colaluca garnered all-tournament accolades for the third consecutive tournament weekend competing at the Orange & Green Challenge hosted by the University of Miami last weekend. Johnson posted 26 kills in the MSU victory over Miami, and again vs. Sacramento State, while Colaluca broke a 17-year Spartan record when she posted 45 digs vs. Sacramento State.
Colaluca tallied a combined 92 digs as MSU went 1-2 in tournament play. Posting 6.57 digs per game in the two-day event, she added six aces, four assists and one kill at the defensive specialist position. Johnson continues to post All-American numbers in 2005. Her 74 kills (5.29 kills per game) last weekend bettered her team-leading mark to 235 for the year, while her eight service aces gives her a total of 13 thus far in the 2005 campaign.
State hosts cross-state rival Michigan in the Big Ten Conference season opener this Wednesday (Sept. 21) at Jenison Field House. The annual Jam Jenison event will also take place where the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free t-shirt. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
