The Spartan volleyball program will introduce two new fan clubs to Jenison Field House in 2006. The Blockheads Fan Club offers membership to MSU students, while the Building Blocks Fan Club offers memberships for children who are enrolled in grades eight and under.
"We are very excited to be able to offer these two new groups to our fans," assistant volleyball coach Mike Gawlik said. "The atmosphere in Jenison Field House will be very exciting this season with our loyal season ticket holders, seating on all sides of the court, and the Blockheads and Building Blocks programs."
The Blockheads program is an MSU student fan club devoted to supporting the team in its quest for a Big Ten championship this fall. The cost for a one-year membership is $10 per student, and offers admission to MSU's 15 regular-season home matches at Jenison, an official Blockheads T-shirt, complimentary pizza at all pre-game block parties, prime end-zone seating, and an opportunity to meet the Spartan volleyball team and coaching staff.
"The Blockheads student fan club is something we wanted to do in the offseason to continue building our student fan base. One of the goals head coach Cathy George and I pushed for was to get Michigan State students free admission to all regular-season home volleyball matches with an MSU student ID," Gawlik said. "With the help of the athletic department, we were able to achieve that goal and hope to get more students involved by offering added benefits with the Blockheads program. We plan to involve the group in promotional activities between games and provide them with promotional gear. The team and coaching staff is very excited about getting more students into the gym."
The Building Blocks program is a fan club offered to children who are enrolled in grades eight and under. The cost for a one-year membership is $15 for a single child and $35 for families with three or more eligible children. A membership includes admission to MSU's regular-season home matches, an official Building Blocks T-shirt, autographs and pictures with players and coaches after home matches, an official membership card, and a monthly newsletter.
"The Building Blocks program was formed in an effort to bring younger kids back to Jenison Field House for Spartan volleyball games," Gawlik said. "Our student-athletes are role models in and out of the classroom, and we want younger MSU fans to follow that same path. We are working with Jill Mason in the marketing and promotions office to include the Building Blocks group with different promotional activities throughout the year. We will also count on both new programs to help welcome our team to the court and celebrate after victories."
Signup tables for both groups will be available at Jenison Field House when MSU begins its home season at the 2006 Spartan Invitational Sept. 1-2. Designated signup table locations will be available at all home contests. If you would like to enroll now, or would like more information on the Blockheads and Building Blocks programs, please contact assistant volleyball coach Mike Gawlik at (517) 353-1756 or at gawlikmi@ath.msu.edu.
