Volleyball Inks Three to National Letters of Intent

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State volleyball program has announced the signing of three recruits to National Letters of Intent. Joining the Spartans for the 2009 season will be Amy Dentlinger (Arcadia, Iowa/Kuemper Catholic), Elizabeth "Bizl" Egerer (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan County Christian) and Alexis Mathews (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance).
Amy Dentlinger • 6-1 • Outside Hitter • Arcadia, Iowa (Kuemper Catholic)
HIGH SCHOOL: Three-year letterwinner at Kuemper Catholic under head coach Jeanne Spieler ... Currently averaging 4.44 kills per set while hitting .487 with 1.33 aces per set and 2.46 digs per set, helping Kuemper qualify for the Iowa State Tournament ... Represented the State of Iowa in the Tri-State Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin Volleyball All-Star Game ... Selected to play in the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Senior Volleyball Classic ... First team All-Western Iowa during her junior season and was a second team selection as a sophomore ... Two-time all-district selection in both her sophomore and junior seasons and was honorable mention all-state during her junior year ... An unanimous first team all-conference selection during her junior season ... Voted MVP and Best Offensive Player during her sophomore season ... Member of eight all-tournament teams in her three years of competition at Kuemper ... Three-time letterwinner in basketball and track ... Holds a 4.51 grade-point-average, ranking first in her class ... Member of National Honor Society and was a member of student council during her junior and senior years ... Earned superior honors during every semester of high school.
CLUB: Was honored as a first team All-American at the AAU National Championships as a member of the Top Ten 18 Elite team, based out of Council Bluffs, Iowa ... Team finished fifth at the AAU Championships in Orlando, Fla. in 2007 and 10th in 2006.
PERSONAL: Daughter of Joel and Sheila Dentlinger ... Born March 11, 1991 ... Expected to be a pre-med major.
CATHY GEORGE ON DENTLINGER: "Athletically, she brings with her a lot of potential. She has a lot of athleticism and leaping ability. She has also competed at a very high level, earning All-America honors at the AAU Championships in Florida. One thing that stands out is that she is very competitive and there is really no limit to what she can bring to our program."

HIGH SCHOOL: Selected to the www.prepvolleyball.com "Senior Aces" Top 150 list ... All-time Wisconsin state leader in kills (2,225) and holds the record for most kills in a single season (815) ... Holds Sheboygan Catholic school records in kills (2,225), aces (322), digs (900) and is second in blocks (419) ... Four year letterwinner at Sheboygan County Christian under head coach Margaret VerVelde ... Currently averaging 7.5 kills per set while hitting .484 ... Her 7.5 kills per set ranks her second in the nation amongst prep athletes while her .484 hitting percentage ranks 17th in the nation ... Averages 3.1 digs per set and 0.60 blocks per set ... Currently has 82 aces on the season, averaging 0.70 per set ... First team all-state selection in 2008 and was a second team honoree in 2007 ... Named the Max Preps/AVCA High School Player of the Week in Wisconsin twice, with the most recent honor coming on Oct. 8, 2008 ... First team all-conference in 2005 and was an unanimous all-conference first team selection from 2006-08 ... Team was the regional champion from 2005-08, advancing to the sectional final in each season ... Lettered four years in varsity basketball, earning team MVP and second team all-conference honors during the 2007-08 season ... Helped her team make its first appearance at the state tournament in 2008 ... Earned high honors in each year of high school.
CLUB: Competed for Fon du Lac Club under head coach Pete Sorenson from 2001-2006 ... Currently plays for Fox Cities Elite Volleyball Club, based out of Appleton, Wis. ... Competed at the USA Volleyball High Performance A-2 Camp in Colorado Springs ... Chosen as a member of the USA Volleyball Badger Region High Performance Team in 2004, `05 and `07, advancing to nationals in `05 and `07.
PERSONAL: Daughter of John and Deb Egerer ... Born on March 12, 1991 ... Plans to major in graphic design and advertising.
CATHY GEORGE ON EGERER: "She is unbelievably competitive and plays with a lot of fire. She is a very dominating offensive player that knows how to terminate points; she is the all-time kill leader in the state of Wisconsin. Her passion for the game and her fire to compete only makes her better. When you have someone that is as physically dominating as she is, combined with her competitiveness, you have the potential for a great player."
Alexis Mathews • 6-3 • Middle Blocker • Detroit, Mich. (Renaissance)
HIGH SCHOOL: Two-year letterwinner at Renaissance High School under head coach Louis Mitchell ... Helped lead her team win the Detroit Public School League Championship in 2007 and helped them earn runner-up honors in 2008 ... Named to the all-area and all-region team in 2008 ... Was the team's Most Outstanding Player in 2006 and the Offensive Player of the Year in 2007 ... Was featured in ESPN Rise in the "Got Game" segment in October.
PERSONAL: Daughter of Edrick and Andrea Mathews ... Born Jan. 23, 1991 ... Textile and Apparel Management major.
CATHY GEORGE ON MATHEWS: "She's tall, 6-3, and she has the potential to be a dominating athlete. She is very gifted. The best thing about Alexis is that potential is her biggest upside. With her height, if you get a skill set developed for her, there is really no limit to what she can do for us in the future."
