COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Michigan State men's golf team holds a one stroke lead over the University of Colorado after the first 36 holes of the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate, held on the Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University's Golf Club. Senior Ryan Brehm led the Spartans over today's initial 36 holes, tying for first place with Ohio State's Zach Sebert. The tournament will conclude tomorrow with 18 holes beginning with a 9 a.m. ET shotgun start.
MSU opened the morning with a 19-over par 303 to sit in a tie for fourth, but shot one stroke better in the afternoon 18 holes, to overtake the lead. His opening 18 holes, included four birdies to go along with six bogeys, but remained consistent in the final round of Saturday, posting 17 pars and one bogeys (his second hole of the round, the 10th).
Junior Randy Hutchison, following up his second place finish this week at the Mizzou Tiger Classic, is in a tie for 15th at 11-over 153 (78-75). Meanwhile, sophomore Jack Newman is tied for 24th, one stroke behind Hutchison with a 12-over 154 (75-79), and freshman Payne Gneiwek is tied for 29th at 13-over 155 (77-78).
