Volleyball Sweeps Albany, 3-0

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State volleyball took down Albany, 3-0, in its second match of the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational. MSU won by scores of 25-17, 25-13 and 25-19 over the Great Danes. Junior Lauren Wicinski had 13 kills in the match and the Spartans (8-0) hit .488 percent in the match.
Setters Kristen Kelsay and Halle Peterson had 23 and 21 assists in the match respectively and Kori Moster had 12 digs for Michigan State. Alexis Mathews had eight kills and added two blocks for Michigan State.
Moster forced an early IPFW timeout in the first set after three straight aces, putting MSU in the lead 8-5. The Spartans went on a 5-1 run late in the match to go up, 24-15. Alexis Mathews had two kills during the run and Wicinski added two more. Mathews ended the set with a big kill in the middle from Halle Peterson, her 10th assist in the set.
The Spartans stayed hot in the second set and jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and forced an Albany timeout after an ace from Kelsay. MSU had three blocks during a 6-0 run in the second set to go up, 21-11. Amy Dentlinger had three kills in the set and Mathews had two blocks. Michigan State took the set, 25-13, to go up 2-0 in the match.
Dentlinger led the way for the Spartans in the third and decisive set with six kills in a 25-19 win. MSU was up 18-16 when Dentlinger strung together three straight kills for Michigan State.
The Spartans are in action again tonight against Georgia at 7:30 p.m. in the final match of the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational. IPFW beat Georgia this morning, 3-1, and will face Albany at 5:30.
