CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Senior Dan Osterman qualified for his third straight trip to the NCAA Championships after upsetting No. 2 Ivan Lopouchanski, 3-2 TB-2, in session one on Saturday. Osterman will face Dylan Ness of Minnesota in the semifinals and is guaranteed a spot in the NCAA Championships by finishing in the top-eight in his weight class at Big Ten Championships.
Junior Michael McClure beat Alex White of Purdue in his first match at heavyweight, 4-0. McClure then fell to fourth-seeded Bobby Telford of Iowa. In session two, McClure will face Chris Lopez of Illinois.
No. 4 seed John Rizqallah earned a 6-4 decision over Kyle Mosier of Purdue at 184 pounds in his first match of the day. He then fell to Ethen Lofthouse of Iowa by a 2-1 decision and will face Chris Heald of Michigan in session two later today.
Brenan Lyon opened the championships with a tough 4-2 loss to Nikko Triggas of Ohio State. Lyon received a bye in the consolation and will face Camden Eppert of Purdue in session two.
At 165 pounds, Nick Proctor dropped a narrow 1-0 decision to Cody Yohn of Minnesota and will face Pierce Harger of Northwestern.
As a team, Michigan State is in 10th place with 10 team points.
