Wrestling Returns Home to Face Northwestern on BTN

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State wrestling returns to Jenison Field House this weekend taking on Northwestern in Big Ten action on Sunday, February 1 at 2:00 p.m. Sunday's dual will be televised nationally on Big Ten Network with Tim Johnson and Zach Mackey on the remote call.
The Spartans enter Sunday with a 3-6 record in duals and an 0-4 mark in Big Ten contests, while Northwestern is 3-5 overall and 1-4 in Big Ten duals following a 38-4 loss to Michigan on Friday night.
The First Whistle
NCAA Coaches released their first set of individual rankings the past week and the Spartans were well-represented with four wrestlers garnering recognition. Redshirt-junior 197-pounder Kael Wisler is the highest-ranked Spartan by the coaches at #23, while redshirt sophomore heavyweight Josh Terrill is #30, redshirt sophomore 133-pounder Caleb Weiand is #32 and redshirt freshman 157-pounder Darius Marines is #33. Wisler moved up in the rankings across the board this week rising to #23 via both FloWrestling and InterMat as well. Weiand moved to #31 via FloWrestling at 133.
Terrill has won three-straight for MSU since entering the starting lineup at heavyweight and is coming off a victory by fall against Indiana's Caleb Marzolino on Monday. True freshman Evan Gosz improved to 3-0 in duals this season following a 20-6 major decision victory against Indiana.
Michigan State has benefited from strong performances at 197 pounds and heavyweight all season long. In duals, MSU has out-scored its opponents 55-14 at those weights with a 14-4 record.
The Spartans are 28-24 against Northwestern all-time but have lose three-straight including a 27-12 loss last season. Michigan State's last victory over the Wildcats came on February 8, 2019 by a final score of 30-10.
