Wrestling Drops Road Finale at #25 Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After weather postponed the dual by 24 hours, Michigan State wrestled concluded its Big Ten road trip with a 31-13 loss to No. 25-ranked Indiana on Monday afternoon inside Wilkinson Hall.
The Spartans move to 3-6 overall and 0-4 in Big Ten duals this season ahead of Sunday afternoon's dual with Northwestern at 2:00 p.m. inside Jenison Field House.
Redshirt sophomore 133-pounder Caleb Weiand got Michigan State on the board in the second bout of the day, coming from behind to secure a 7-4 decision in sudden victory. Weiand and Indiana's Blaine Frazier were tied 3-3 late in the third period, but Frazier had secured the riding time point to effectively lead 4-3 until Weiand made a late escape from bottom. In sudden victory, Weiand secured a single-leg takedown to earn the decision.
Freshman 149-pounder Evan Gosz put bonus points on the board for the Spartans soon after, knocking off Indiana's Joey Buttler by major decision, 20-6. Gosz countered a cement mixer attempt by Buttler to put three on the board in the first period, later earning two full sets of near falls points to pull MSU within 10-7 on the team score.
Redshirt junior heavyweight Josh Terrill earned his third consecutive dual victory of the season on Monday, pinning Indiana's Caleb Mazolino late in the second period. It's the second win by fall for Terrill this season.
