
Cameron Caffey to Compete at 2018 Junior Pan-American Championships

Caffey is set to compete in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle tournaments.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State redshirt freshman wrestler Cameron Caffey is set to compete for Team USA in two events at the Junior Pan-American Championships, beginning on Friday in Fortaleza, Brazil.
The Carbondale, Ill. native will take to the mat in Greco-Roman competition at 9 a.m. on Friday, August 17 before concluding his trip to Brazil with a freestyle tournament on Sunday, August 19. Caffey is one of just four wrestlers at the championships to wrestle in both the Greco-Roman and freestyle tournaments. Men's competition will break on Saturday for the women's freestyle tournament.
Caffey qualified for the event after finishing as the 87kg runner-up at the USA Wrestling Greco-Roman World Team Trials in June.
Last season, Caffey wrestled at 184 and compiled a 22-6 record at open tournaments in a redshirt year. Caffey was one of four Spartans to win 20 matches and tied for third on the team with seven falls. In his first event as a collegiate wrestler, Caffey won the 184-pound title in the Freshman and Sophomore division at the MSU Open. Caffey also took first at the Storm Open and at the Alma Open.
Team USA will be coached by USA Wrestling Freestyle Development Coach Kevin Jackson and University of Maryland head coach Kerry McCoy.
