Wrestling to Take On No. 8 Iowa Inside Jenison Field House

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State wrestling is back in Jenison Field House this weekend for a Big Ten dual with No. 8-ranked Iowa on Sunday, February 8 at 1:00 p.m. Sunday's dual will be streamed live on B1G+ with former Spartan grappler Eric Olanowski and Madison Groff on the call.
The Spartans enter the weekend with a 4-6 record overall and a 1-4 record in B1G duals. MSU is coming off a 22-20 victory over Northwestern last weekend. Iowa is 9-4 (2-2 B1G) and will face No. 2-ranked Ohio State on the road prior to arrival in East Lansing. The Hawkeyes are coming off a 21-16 loss to then No. 9-ranked Minnesota in Iowa City last Friday.
The First Whistle
NCAA Coaches released their first set of individual rankings, and the Spartans were well-represented with four wrestlers garnering recognition. Redshirt-junior 197-pounder Kael Wisler is the highest-ranked Spartan by the coaches at #23, while redshirt sophomore heavyweight Josh Terrill is #30, redshirt sophomore 133-pounder Caleb Weiand is #32 and redshirt freshman 157-pounder Darius Marines is #33. Wisler is ranked #22 by FloWrestling and #23 by InterMat this week while Weiand checks in at #29 via FloWrestling.
Last week, Michigan State took down Northwestern, 22-20, from inside Jenison. MSU got pins from both Terrill and redshirt sophomore 149-pounder Clayton Jones while Marines who via major decision at 157. Weiand has won back-to-back appearances at 133 pounds, while Terrill has won four straight heavyweight bouts entering Sunday.
Michigan State is 15-40-2 all-time against the Hawkeyes but have not met Iowa in dual action since February 2, 2020, a 32-3 loss in East Lansing.
