• SET THREE: The third set was a back-and-forth effort in the early going - MSU opened up a 6-3 lead only to see the Mocs tie it up at 6-6, only to reel off another 3-0 run to go up 9-6. The Spartans used some sharp serving and a .500 hitting percentage to open up a 10-point lead (18-8), with Midgette notching three aces. Everything was firing on all levels for the Spartans as the blocking came alive, the hitting was sharp, and the service game was on point, maintaining the 10-point margin at 21-11. Kills by Poljan and Norris gave the Spartans set point at 24-11, but the Mocs fought it off thanks in part to a trio of MSU errors, at which point the bench called time out with a 24-15 lead. Chattanooga got a big block out of the time out, but Norris closed it out for MSU to take a 2-1 match lead. The Spartans rebounded with a .241 hitting percentage and recorded four aces in the set, and added three more blocks. Norris led the way with four kills.

The Spartans held a comfortable lead with as much as an eight-point advantage, at 18-10, but Chattanooga countered with a three-point run that trimmed it to 18-13, and MSU called a time out. Norris got the sideout out of the break and then stepped to the service line for five straight points, two coming from blocks by Gros and Chronowski. The Mocs certainly showed fight to narrow the lead down to 24-15, but a Poljan/Chronowski stuff at the left pin sealed the four-set victory.
