MSU wins third straight match
 SPARTAN SYNOPSIS   Â
Michigan State earned its third straight win on Friday, downing Maryland-Eastern Shore, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-11) in the opener of the Carolina Classic. Â MSU improves to 3-1 on the season.
Alyssa Chronowski led the Spartans with 12 kills and hitting .455, compiling her fourth straight double-digit kill performance. Â
Captain Maddie Haggerty had 10 kills in her Spartan debut, hitting .333 and adding six digs. Â The redshirt senior had to sit out the 2016 campaign due to NCAA transfer rules, and missed all of 2017 as well as the first weekend of this season with injury, Â and certainly had a presence as the Spartans got off to an early lead with her hot hand in the first set, where she had five of her 10 terminations.Â
MSU held the upper hand most of the afternoon, hitting .300 or better in all three sets and committing just 10 errors in the three sets. Â
The Hawks out-blocked MSU 5-1 in the opening frame, but the Spartans shut that down and out-blocked the Hawks 5-1 over the balance of the match, including three in the final frame where the Spartans dominated with a .385 hitting percentage and won by 14. Â MSU hit an impressive .500 (18-3-30) in the second set. Â
Maggie Midgette got her second straight start at setter and nearly compiled a double-double with 36 assists, a match-high nine digs, and three service aces. Â Freshman middle Naya Gros had five kills and four blocks (one solo).Â
The Spartans ave a pair of Saturday games on tap. Â MSU plays UNC-Greensboro at 11 am, then returns to the floor to tangle with the host Tar Heels at 6:30 pm. Â
 QUOTABLE Â
"I think we attacked today's match in the right way.  It was nice to get Maddie Haggerty out there after she missed last weekend, and we're really excited to get her on the court - she missed all of last year with an injury, which meant she was off the court for two full years.  We're still at a point where we're going to be trying different lineups and combinations, and I think as a whole, our team is handling these early games really well.  We have gotten better in each game we have played, and we will be looking for more of that growth tomorrow."
