No. 7 Notre Dame won the tournament at 43-under-par 821 (277-270-274). UND's Palmer Jackson took medalist honors at 16-under-par 200.
"We're just not competing as hard as we need to be right now. We're playing fine, but when we're passive, it brings us down and that affects our finishes and rounds; when you do it enough, you're going to get beat," MSU head coach Casey Lubahn said.
Bradley Smithson led the Spartans by placing 21st at 7-under-par 209 (68-69-72). Smithson carded an even-par 72 on Monday.
James Piot followed up his career-best 66 on Sunday with the best round of any Spartan on Monday with a 3-under-par 69 that included six birdies. For the tournament, Piot was 6-under-par 210 (75-66-69) and tied for 24th place.
Landon Ernst had a steady final round with 14 pars to card an even-par 72. He finished 1-under-par 215 (74-69-72) and took 45th place.
Troy Taylor II was one shot back of Ernst at even-par 216 (70-73-73) to come in 49th place. He shot a 1-over-par 73 on Monday.
Andrew Walker had two birdies, including on No. 18, and five pars over the final seven holes to record an even-par 72 on Monday. Walker finished the tournament 7-over-par 223 (72-79-72).
Playing as an individual Zach Rosendale also shot a 7-over-par 223 (79-69-75).
"We dug ourselves a little hole in the fall a bit like we did last year," Lubahn said. "It will take a commitment from all nine guys, the coaches and we'll be fine. We have a lot of believe and we'll just fix a couple of the things that are going wrong."
Michigan State's first tournament of the spring will be back in the Sunshine State as the Spartans will take part in the Big Ten Match Play Championship, Feb. 7-8, in Palm Coast, Florida.
