Spartans Tied for Seventh After Two Rounds of the Fighting Irish Classic

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Michigan State men's golf team is 11-over-par 579 (285-294) and tied for seventh place after two rounds at the Fighting Irish Classic on Monday at the Warren Golf Course on the campus of Notre Dame. The Spartans are just six shots out of the top-three, while host Notre Dame leads the tournament at 14-under-par 554 (283-271).

Troy Taylor II was under par in both rounds and is tied for sixth place individually at 3-under-par 139. Taylor opened the day with a 2-under-par 69, registering just one bogey in the round. He continued his steady play in the second round, again shooting under par at 1-under 70.
Taylor is one of two players tied for sixth place and just three shots out of the top three. Christopher Gotterup of Rutgers leads all players at 11-under-par 131 (68-63).
Bradley Smithson is tied for 38th place at 5-over-par 147 (70-77).
James Piot cut two strokes off his first-round score and fired a 2-over-par 73 in round two. He's 6-over-par 148 for the tournament and tied for 46th place.
Andrew Walker (71-78) and Zach Rosendale (75-74) are both 7-over-par 149 and tied for 56th place.
The Spartans will be in groups 1-5 for Tuesday's final round and will all tee off from the first hole beginning at 8 a.m.
