Piot Leads Island Resort Intercollegiate After Two Rounds

HARRIS, Mich. – Michigan State junior James Piot is 6-under-par 138 and tied for the lead after two rounds at the Island Resort Intercollegiate in Harris, Michigan. As a team, the Spartans are in fifth place after two rounds of the season-opening tournament in the U.P. at 5-over-par 581 (289-292). Purdue leads the 10-team field at 11-under-par 565 (280-285), followed by East Carolina at 7-under-par 569 and Liberty at 6-under-par 570.
GOLFSTAT
Piot opened the tournament at Sage Run Golf Course with a 4-under-par 68. He picked up six birdies in the round – three on the front and three on the back. The junior started the second round with consecutive bogies, but quickly bounced back with birdies on two of the next four holes. He added two more birdies on the back and parred the final six holes to card a 2-under-par 70.
Piot is tied with Purdue's Joe Weiler, who also shot a 68 and 70, respectively.
Troy Taylor II is tied for 18th place at 1-over-par 145 (73-72). He recorded eight birdies on the day – four in each round.
Andrew Walker and Zach Rosendale are tied for 34th place at 5-over-par 149. Walker opened the day with an even-par 72. He followed it with a 5-over-par 77 in the second round, which included an eagle on the par-5, 585-yard 12th hole. Rosendale cut three strokes off his opening-round score with a 1-over-par 73 in the second round. He started round two with three consecutive birdies and added two more on the back nine.
In his collegiate debut, freshman Bradley Smithson shot an 11-over-par 155 (76-79) and is tied for 63rd place.
Another new Spartan, redshirt sophomore transfer Landon Ernst, leads all Spartans individuals as he's tied for ninth place at 2-under-par 142 (72-70).
The final round of the tournament at Sage Run will begin Sunday morning.
