
Meet the Spartans: Miles Hoey

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State wrestling will feature a newcomer weekly throughout the preseason in order to "Meet the Spartans" leading up to the 2019-20 season. This week, freshman Miles Hoey (Chicago, Ill. / Mount Carmel High School) sat down with msuspartans.com to answer some questions.
1. Why did you choose to wrestle at Michigan State?

The team is like a family here at Michigan State and the coaching staff was very nice and welcoming.

2. What are you most excited about as you begin your Spartan wrestling career?
Â
I am most excited about competing for the Spartans and getting to know everyone on the team.

3. When did you first start wrestling?
Â
I started going to practice at four but competing around six or seven years old.
Â
4. What is your favorite wrestling memory?
Â
My favorite wrestling memory was wrestling at Fargo or team state my freshman year.
Â
5. What are you majoring in at Michigan State and why?
Â
I am majoring in nursing. I chose nursing because I love helping others and had personal experience with helping my uncle during his fight with Alzheimer's.

6. Who has taught you the most about wrestling growing up?
Â
My dad taught me the most about the mental aspect of wrestling, but Alex Tsirtsis taught me the most technique wise and transformed me to an elite wrestler.

7. If you were a superhero, what would be your power and what would be your name?
Â
My power would be teleporting, so I didn't have to walk to class in the winter. My name would be 'SuperMiles'.

8. What is your favorite meal?
Â
My favorite meal is lamb chops.

9. Favorite TV show?
Â
My favorite TV show is The Office.

10. Favorite thing to do besides wrestling?
I enjoy running and playing any other sport.
Prior to MSU:Â Hoey lettered all four years at Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, Ill...Elected team captain during senior season..2019 state qualifier and three-time All-Conference selection...Selected to academic honor roll junior and senior year.. Was a member of Illinois National Team.
