Spartans 11th After Two Rounds at the Gopher Invitational

INDEPENDENCE, Minn. – The Michigan State men's golf team is in 11^th place after two rounds of play at the Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minnesota. The Spartans are 13-over-par 581 (290-291) at the event that includes five teams that finished in the Golfstat top 40 last season. Baylor leads the 13-team field at 8-under-par 560 (281-279), while William Buhl of Arkansas leads individually at 7-under-par 135 (68-67).

Sophomore Troy Taylor II leads all Spartans after 36 holes as he's tied for 15^th place at even-par 142. Taylor shot a 1-under-par 70 in the opening round and then a 1-over-par 72 in the next round. Taylor was consistent all day as he parred 26 of 36 holes. He finished his second round with two birdies followed by five consecutive pars.

Junior James Piot is tied for 31^st place at 3-over-par 145 (73-72), followed by Andrew Walker who is 6-over-par 148 (73-75) and tied for 46^th place.

Landon Ernst overcame an opening round 6-over-par 77 with a 1-over-par 72 in the second round. Ernst is 7-over-par 149 and tied for 54^th place.

Rookie Bradley Smithson is 9-over-par 151 (74-77) and tied for 61^st place.

The third and final round at the 7,368-yard course will begin Monday morning.
