
Men's Tennis Hits the Road to Take on Middle Tennessee on Friday

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's tennis opens its road slate with a trip to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to take on the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee State on Friday, Jan. 17. Play is set to begin at 5 p.m. inside the Adams Tennis Complex.Â
"Middle Tennessee State has a strong tennis tradition," said MSU men's tennis head coach Gene Orlando. "This will be a tough road test for us this early in the season. This will be a great opportunity to find a way to win against a tough opponent and in a challenging environment."
Michigan State and Middle Tennessee State will meet for the third time on Friday, with the series tied at one. The Spartans defeated the Blue Raiders, 4-3, in their last meeting on Jan. 25, 2018.Â
About the Spartans
MSU (1-0) collected a win in its home opener for the 19th-straight season on Saturday, Jan. 11, when it downed Toledo, 4-3, at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. Freshman Kazuki Matsuno and junior Josh Mukherjee joined freshmen Jarreau Campbell and Drew Keene with doubles wins, while sophomores Carson Gates and Anthony Pero added singles wins along with Mukherjee.Â
About the Blue Raiders
Middle Tennessee host the Spartans for its season opener on Jan. 17. The Blue Raiders are led by Chris Edge, who ranks No. 76 in singles action and doubles tandem Pavel Motl and Stijn Slump who enter the dual season ranked No. 48 in the ITA/Oracle Doubles Rankings. Edge finished the 2018-19 slate with a 15-9 dual record for the Blue Raiders.Â
