Michigan State's women's volleyball team lost a four-set match to Iowa, 3-1 (25-27, 25-19, 16-25, 21-25), on Friday night at Jenison Fieldhouse.

The Spartans fall to 9-11 overall and 2-9 in the Big Ten Conference, while Iowa improves to 3-18 overall and 1-10 in league play.

MSU had a 50-45 edge in kills, while Iowa tallied a .224 hitting percentage, had 39 digs and nine blocks.Â

PLAYER HIGHS
- Molly Johnson had three-straight aces, a season-high total.
- Johnson also added a season-high seven kills and four blocks.
- Biamba Kabengele tied a season-high with 11 kills.
- SET ONE:  Michigan State trailed early but scored four-straight points, three off service aces from Molly Johnson to take a 6-3 lead. The Spartans extended their lead to 10-6, but Iowa used a 5-1 rally to take a 17-15 lead on a service ace from Bailey Ortega. MSU responded with four-straight points, taking a 19-17 off the serve of Julia Bishop and forcing Iowa to call a timeout. The Hawkeyes responded by taking three of the next four points to tie the game at 20-all on a kill from Courtney Buzzerio. Michigan State took a 23-21 lead on a kill from Sarah Franklin, but the Hawkeyes tied the game at 23-all and broke a 25-all tie with kills from Buzzerio and Edina Schmidt to win the first set.
- SET TWO:  Coming off the first set loss, the Spartans jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead following a block assist from Naya Gross and Franklin. MSU maintained a two-point lead at 11-9 after a kill by Franklin, but the Hawkeyes rallied to tie the game at 13-all. After MSU took a 16-14 lead on a kill from Celia Cullen, Iowa tied the game at 17-all on a kill from Amiya Jones. The Spartans used a 5-1 run to take a 22-18 lead on a kill from Emma Monks, forcing Iowa to call a timeout. Following the break, MSU took three of the final four points, with two off kills by Johnson, to take the second set 25-19.
- SET THREE:Â Â Iowa won the first point of the third set and extended its lead to 8-4 off a service ace from Jones. The Spartans pulled to within 8-7 on a solo block from Biamba Kabengele, but a 4-0 Iowa run, capped by a Buzzerio kill, gave the Hawkeyes an 11-7 lead. MSU pulled to within 13-11 off a block by Johnson, but Iowa used a 7-2 run to take a 20-13 lead off the serve of Jones. The Hawkeyes won five of the last eight points to cap a 12-5 run and close out the set, 25-16.
- SET FOUR:Â Â Like they did in the third set, Iowa won the first point and jumped out to an early lead on the Spartans, extending it to 7-3 following an attack error. A 4-1 run, capped by a service ace from Grace Dazinger, pulled MSU to within 8-7, but Iowa responded with a 5-1 run and took a 13-8 lead off the serve of Bailey Ortega. The Spartans used a 5-1 rally of its own and pulled to within 14-13 on a kill by Franklin. Iowa won three of the next four points, taking a 17-14 lead on a block assist from Audrey Black and Jones, forcing MSU to call a timeout. Iowa extended its lead to 21-17 on a Jones kill and MSU pulled to within 24-21, but the Hawkeyes secured the final point on a service error to capture the set, 25-21, and the win.
