Spartans in Second Heading into the Final Round of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate

CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina – The Michigan State men's golf team shot a 3-under-par 285 in round two of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate on Sunday in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Spartans are 3-under-par 573 after two rounds of play at the UNC Finley Course and are 12 strokes behind host and event leader North Carolina.

James Piot is tied for second place and is three shots off the lead after the lowest round of the tournament by any player on Sunday with a 4-under-par 68. Piot is 6-under-par 138 over the first two rounds, three strokes behind UNC's Peter Fountain for the top spot.
Piot was one of three Spartans to record an eagle on Sunday as he did so on the par-5, 560-yard 17th hole. The senior was 1-under-par at the turn on Sunday then picked up three birdies over the final nine holes to finish with a 68.
Andrew Walker gave the Spartans two players in the top 10 as he is 2-under-par 142 (70-72). Walker shot an even-par 72 on Sunday.
Troy Taylor II cut four strokes off his opening round score with a 1-under-par 71 in Sunday's second round. After a disappointing double bogey on the fifth hole on Sunday, Taylor bounced right back with an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole and then followed that with a birdie. He's tied for 22nd place at 2-over-par 146.
August Meekhof is 3-over-par 147 (73-74) and tied for 27th place.
Bradley Smithson was the third Spartan to record an eagle on Sunday, doing so like Taylor on the par-5 sixth hole. Smithson shot a 3-over-par 75 on Sunday and is 7-over-par 151 for the tournament.
The Spartans will begin teeing off from hole No. 1 in Monday's final round at 10:10 a.m.
