Spartans Tied for the Lead After Two Rounds at Sea Island

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Georgia – The Michigan State men's golf team is tied for the lead after two rounds at the Spartan Collegiate at Sea Island. The Spartans are 6-under-par 570 after Monday's opening 36 holes and tied atop the leaderboard with Notre Dame heading into Tuesday's final round at Sea Island's Plantation Course.

MSU and Notre Dame are one stroke ahead of Georgia Southern, while Northwestern and Iowa are both 2-under-par 574 and tied for fourth place.
 
The Spartans shot identical 3-under-par 285s in both of Monday's rounds.
 
James Piot and Troy Taylor II led the Spartans on Monday as both were 2-under-par 142 and are tied for seventh place. Piot started the day with a 2-under-par 70 and followed it up with an even-par 72. Taylor carded a 1-over-par 73 in round one, then came back with the lowest round of the day by a Spartan with a 3-under-par 69.
 
August Meekhof is tied for 27th place at 1-over-par 145. He earned a 1-under-par 71 in round one, which included an eagle on the par-5, 560-yard 18th hole. He followed in the afternoon with a 2-over-par 74.
 
Andrew Walker cut six strokes off his opening round 76 with a 2-under-par 70 in round two, which included birdies on four of the first five holes on the back nine. He's 2-over-par 146 and tied for 38th.
 
Bradley Smithson is 4-over-par 148 (71-77) and tied for 48th.
 
Notre Dame's Andrew O'Leary lead individually at 5-under-par 139.
 
The third and final round of the 16-team tournament will begin on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
