Spartans Wrap-Up Day One of the Kepler Intercollegiate tied for Tenth Place

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Michigan State men's golf team got through the opening two rounds of the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate on Saturday at Ohio State's Scarlet Course. MSU was one of 14 teams in the field of 17 that completed the second round, which was halted due to darkness late Saturday.

The Spartans are 21-over-par 589 (293-296) and tied for 10th place. No. 8 Illinois is the lone team in the field under par, leading the tournament at 1-under-par 567.
James Piot was one of five players to finish the day under par as he's 1-under-par 141 (68-73) and in fifth place. Piot's opening-round 3-under-par 68 tied for the lowest round of the day and included six birdies. He shot a 2-over-par 73 in the afternoon.
Piot is just three strokes behind the leader, Cade Breitenstine of Kent State.
Andrew Walker is 8-over-par 150 (72-78) and tied for 54th place.
Bradley Smithson followed an opening round 7-over-par 78 with a 2-over-par 73 in round two. His second round included an eagle on the par-5, 562-yard 12th hole. Smithson is tied for 58th place along with August Meekhof at 9-over-par 151. Meekhof shot a 4-over-par 75 and 5-over-par 76, respectively.
Troy Taylor II is 11-over-par 153 (79-74).
Following the completion of round two, which will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, the final round will commence at 9 a.m.
