Spartans, Piot Lead Hoosier Collegiate After Two Rounds

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana – The Michigan State men's golf team leads the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational after two rounds of play on Saturday at the Pfau Course at Indiana University. The Spartans are 19-over-par 587 (298-289), 10 strokes ahead of the host Hoosiers and 12 in front of third-place Nebraska.

The Spartans' 5-over-par 289 in round two was the lowest total of any team in any round by seven strokes.

Senior James Piot leads individually by four shots. He is even-par 142 through two rounds after posting a 1-over-par 72 and then a 1-under-par 70. Piot was even at the turn in round two, then picked up a birdie on No. 10 and went on to record eight consecutive pars to end the day. His 70 was the lowest score of any player in any round on the day.

Bradley Smithson and Troy Taylor II occupy the fourth and fifth places, respectively. Smithson shot an opening round 4-over-par 75, then carded a 1-over-par 72 as he's 5-over-par 147. Taylor fired a 5-over-par 76, then matched Smithson with a 72 in round two.

Andrew Walker turned in a pair of 4-over-par 75s and is tied for 12^th place.

August Meekhof is tied for 24^th place at 11-over-par 153 (77-76).

The Spartans are slated to begin Sunday's final round between 9:50 and 10:30 a.m.
