"After missing out last year, we could not be more excited to enter some much-needed normalcy as we host the 2021 Summer Camp Series this summer at Jenison Field House," said head coach Cathy George.Â
"This is one of my favorite times of the year, and this summer will mean just a little bit more for all of us who missed this wonderful experience last summer. I love camp season, and I love being able to reconnect with so many of our young Spartan fans who are looking to improve their volleyball skills."
Â
The fun begins on Monday, July 12th when the Spartans will host a three-day series featuring six individual half-day camps. Volleyball skills such as hitting, blocking, defense, passing, serving, and setting will be covered. Building on the lessons learned during an earlier session, campers have the opportunity to learn advanced attacking tendencies during the Half-Day Advanced Attacking Camp on Tuesday, July 20th. The summer lineup concludes with the always popular Elite Performance Camp on Wednesday, July 21st, where campers will get a taste of what a collegiate practice at Michigan State looks like in a more advanced environment.
"Many people at Michigan State - especially Lynn Stuart, Seth Kesler, and Sally Nogle, along with so many others across our University community - have spent countless hours navigating these difficult roads in order for us to resume hosting camps as safely as possible. We applaud these incredible efforts, and our program is so grateful for their leadership during these times. As we host these camps, our staff is taking every precaution possible to ensure the health and safety for all who join us this summer."
Â
Â
New camp protocols are in place for 2021. For each camp, participants will be pre-assigned a small cohort on a single court to eliminate mixing of the entire camp. Campers will stay in their cohort for the entire duration of camp (moving to different courts will not be permitted). Parents may watch camp, but must stay in the upper balcony with masks. Masks for all will be required during check-in, camp dismissal, and any other time when physical activity is not occurring. Food will not be provided during any camp; should campers attend two half-day camps during the same day, campers will be asked to eat their own provided lunch upstairs in the balcony in-between camps. During the Elite Performance Camp, campers will eat their own provided lunch with their cohort in the upstairs balcony. Specific safety protocols will be provided in the immediate days leading up to each camp.
 Â
Â
"While we are not permitted to host overnight accommodations on campus this summer, we are still able to offer eight different skill camps that offer a true volleyball experience for our campers," noted George. "No matter which skill you are looking to improve, we are offering the opportunity to work with and learn from our staff and student-athletes this summer to help take your game to the next level. Whether it be attacking, blocking, defense and passing, serving, or setting – you will find a camp that is perfect for you this summer at Michigan State."
