McCallum and Franklin Lead Track and Field at Silverston Invitational

McCallum and Franklin Place First, Three Others Place Second in Events
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Michigan State men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition Friday at the Silverston Invitational, highlighted by first-place jumps from Sophia Franklin and Erin McCallum inside the UM Indoor Track Building.

Amani Nuels started the day on the track, running the third-best time of 7.55 in the women's 60m preliminaries and following that up with a 7.46 personal-record time in the finals to place second. In the women's mile, Kaitlyn Hynes posted a PR of 4:48.98 to take second place, while Abigail Lee also placed second her she ran a 10:19.38 PR time in the women's 3000m event. The Spartans also got a pair of third-place finishes when Haley Rathwell finished with a 58.27 time in the women's 400m and Shae Harbaugh recorded a 1:37.36 time in the women's 600m. Judith Rector also had a PR of 2:11.91 in the women's 800m to place fourth and Abbey Carvey had a 2:14.72 PR in the same race to place sixth, while Sarah Walbrook took fourth in the women's 200m at a time of 25.24.

For the men's track competitors, Justin Ferraro posted a PR of 4:18.44 to place eighth in the men's mile.

On the infield, Jalen Nelson (unattached) placed second in the men's high jump at 1.95m, and Tylor Leedom had a 1.95m jump as well to place third. The jumps squad continued the momentum into the women's pole vault where Franklin paced the event with a 4.31m vault. The women's high jump had three Spartans finish in the top-4, as McCallum won the event at a height of 5.45m and Autumn Glover followed her in second place at 5.39m, while Day'Anna Marr took fourth with a 5.35m jump.

The men's distance medley relay team will close out Michigan State's weekend when that quartet heads to Notre Dame's Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 19. The Spartans then head to the Big Ten Indoor Championships on Feb. 25-26 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
