EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State head volleyball coach Kristen Kelsay announced the hiring of Dan O'Keefe as an assistant coach on Sunday.
O'Keefe arrives in East Lansing after spending the last three seasons at Clemson University, where he was an assistant coach, offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator for the Tigers.
"I am fired up to add Dan O'Keefe to my staff," said Kelsay. "Dan is a proven recruiter and an excellent teacher of the game. He embodies the Spartan family mentality and will be essential in the success of our program."
Clemson made a pair of postseason appearances during O'Keefe's three years on staff, playing in the 2022 and 2023 National Invitational Volleyball Championships. In 2022, The Tigers posted their most kills and kills/set since 2018, and then junior Camryn Hannah earned All-ACC Second Team honors under O'Keefe's guidance. Clemson climbed to as high as No. 45 in the NCAA RPI in 2023, the highest mark for Clemson since 2008. This past season, Neea-Maria Joki earned ACC All-Freshman team honors with O'Keefe's assistance.
Prior to Clemson, O'Keefe spent four seasons on staff at Wright State helping the Raiders to a 79-30 record during his tenure. In 2019, Wright State won the Horizon League regular season title and earned the program's first ever at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Raiders followed up their 2019 performance by winning the Horizon League regular season and tournament title in 2020, picking up an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament and a round one victory over Samford.
O'Keefe got his coaching start as a volunteer assistant at Dayton in 2017 where he worked with six Atlantic 10 All-Conference players, including the A10 Setter and Player of the Year. The Flyers finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 23-8, along with a 13-1 record in A10 matches.
A three-time team captain at Saint Xavier University, O'Keefe has been an active coach in the Chicago volleyball community since 2014. At SXU, O'Keefe was an All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference second team honoree as an outside hitter and was elected team captain prior to the 2015 season.
O'Keefe, a native of Chicago, graduated from SXU with a Bachelor of Business Administration with concentrations in marketing and management.
