MSU Hosts No. 14 USC, UCLA to Close Regular Season

EAST LANSING, Mich. -Â Michigan State volleyball (18-10, 8-10) closes the regular season this week with a pair of weekday matches, hosting No. 14 USC on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. before welcoming UCLA for a post-Thanksgiving match on Friday, Nov. 28 at 1 p.m. inside the Breslin Center.
Friday's match against the Trojans will serve as MSU's senior night, where seniors Danyle Courtley and Evie Doezema will be honored post-match.
Both matches will stream on B1G+. Fans can tune into John Kreger's call of the action on MSUSpartans.com or via the Michigan State Athletics app for both matches.
The Spartans dropped both of their B1G contests last weekend, falling to then-No. 24 Penn State and Ohio State, both on the road. MSU's 18 wins are the most in a season since going 24-9 in 2017.Â
Junior outside hitter Karolina Staniszewska totaled a team-best 24 kills last week with 12 kills in each contest to post 3.43 kills per set over MSU's two matches. Against the Nittany Lions, she added 10 digs for her t seventh double-double of the season. She has posted a team-best 17 matches with 10 or more kills this season.
Defensively, junior middle blocker Zuzanna Kulig totaled 12 blocks over MSU's two matches for a combined 1.71 blocks per set. Her 1.71 BPS was the fourth-best in the conference last week. MSU posted nine total blocks against both Penn State and Ohio State as a team, which tied the Spartans' third-best single-match block total in conference matches this season and combined for a 2.57 BPS. That number ranked fifth in the B1G over last week's matches.
Junior libero Lia Schneider averaged 5.29 digs per set over the Spartans' two matches, combining for 37 digs, including 16 against Penn State and 21 at Ohio State. Her 5.29 digs per set ranked second in the conference last week. Schneider has now posted four matches with 20 or more digs and 15 with at least 10 digs.
Redshirt freshman Malayah Long tallied 50 assists over last week's matches, eclipsing 900 assists for the season against Ohio State. Long now sits at 919 assists in 2025 to rank seventh for a freshman in a single season at MSU. She is one of seven freshmen all-time at MSU to reach 900 assists in a single season and first since Rachel Minarick in 2014.
About USC
No. 14 USC is 22-6 overall and 13-5 in the B1G this season. The Trojans went 2-0 last week, defeating Oregon on the road, 3-1, before sweeping Illinois at home. USC has won 11 of its last 12 matches, falling only to top-ranked Nebraska in that time.
USC leads the all-time series, 7-2, while the teams are an even 1-1 in matches in East Lansing. The Trojans last visited East Lansing on Aug. 28, 2009, which was a five-set victory for MSU, while USC earned a 3-1 win in their first visit on Aug. 30, 1997. The Spartans reverse swept then-No. 16 USC on the road last season in the teams' first contest as Big Ten foes.
Head coach Brad Keller is in his sixth season at USC.
About UCLA
UCLA is 16-12 overall and 10-8 in the conference in 2025. The Bruins took down Illinois at home, 3-2, before falling at Washington in three sets last week. UCLA will play Michigan on Wednesday this week before visiting East Lansing.
UCLA is 7-1 in the all-time series and won last year's contest in three sets in Los Angeles. Friday will be the Bruins' first-ever match against the Spartans in East Lansing, with five of the all-time contests coming in Los Angeles and one in a neutral-site match in South Bend, Indiana, in 2000. The Spartans' only win in the series came in a four-set win in the second round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament on Dec. 1, 2012.
Alfee Reft is in his third season with the Bruins.
