Russell's Last-Second Goal Sinks Wisconsin in OT.

Chicago, Ill. . – Daniel Russell scored his second goal of the game with 1.4 seconds remaining in overtime to give MSU a 4-3 overtime victory over Wisconsin on Saturday night in the Frozen Confines event at Wrigley Field.
Russell got the pass from defenseman Nicklas Andrews, put a shot on net, and stuffed home his own rebound past goaltender Tommy Scarfone – his national-leading sixth game-winning goal of the season to extend the Spartan' seven-game unbeaten streak.
Wisconsin had some heroics of its own, rallying for an extra attacker goal at 19:12 of the third period to knot the game at 3-3. Freshman Ryland Mosely was the hero off a feed from Quinn Finley to send the game to overtime.
MSU, ranked No. 1 in the national polls, improves to 17-2-1 overall and a first-place tie in the Big Ten standings (8-1-1, 24 points), tied with Minnesota. Wisconsin lost its third straight game to the Spartans (two in OT) and fall to 9-12-1 and 5-9-0 in B1G action.
Russell had two goals and an assist, and Isaac Howard had a goal and two helpers in the win. Sophomore netminder Luca DI Pasquo made a career-best 31 saves, earning his fourth win in seven days between the pipes.
Mosley and Quinn Finley each had a goal and an assist for the Badgers, who also got 34 saves from goalie Tommy Scarfone.
MSU took a 2-0 lead 25 minutes into the game. Freshman Vladislav Lukashevich scored his first collegiate goal at 15:36, collecting an attempted clearing pass by the Badgers and wristing it home at 15:36. Five minute into the second period, Russell scored his first of the night, a putback of a Austin Oravez blast from the right point. The Badgers rallied with goals by Morrisey and Finley to knot up the game headed into the final period. Howard's goal came at 7:32 of the third, off a drop pass from Russell, and the game was sent to OT with the final-minute goal by Mosley.
Michigan State returns to action with a road series at Penn State next weekend (Jan. 11-12).

Second Period: MSU doubled the lead 4:29 into the second. After killing off a carryover penalty from the first period, MSU went back on the attack. Isaac Howard, tied up with a defender on the half wall, got it out to Austin Oravetz at the right point, and he put a shot on net that was saved by Scarfone. Daniel Russell collected the puck between two Wisconsin defenders and redirected it past the goalie for his ninth goal of the season. The Badgers cut into the lead at 10:17, when Gavin Morrisey scored on a sharp-angle shot to the right of Di Pasquo to make it a 2-1 game; at 14:35, Finley got the equalizer, which held up to the intermission.

Matt Basgall started the play deep in MSU's defensive zone and feeding Russell at the half wall. The junior streaked up the right side and cut inside, backhanding a pass it to Howard just inside the blue line. Howard skated it to the top of the left circle and sniped it past Scarfone to take a 3-2 lead. With time winding down, the Badgers called Scarfone to the bench in favor of an extra skater. It paid off with the Mosley equalizer, eventually sending the game to extra time.

- The victory was the 1,400th in program history, dating back to the program's start in 1922.
- The announced crowd for the Saturday Wrigley games was 24,788. The MSU-Wisconsin matchup was preceded by a women's game, an Ohio State shootout victory over Wisconsin.
- The Spartans are now unbeaten in their last seven games (6-0-1) – a stretch which started at Wisconsin on Dec. 7 with an overtime game-winner by Isaac Howard,

- Daniel Russell had his first two-goal game of the season and now has a 10-6-16 scoring line. He is three goals shy of his sophomore year total and leads the nation with six game-winning tallies this season.
- This was not the first time that Russell has beaten the buzzer to win a game for the Spartans. Last January 25th, Russell scored with four seconds remaining in regulation to break a 2-2 tie to secure a win over Minnesota.
- Luca Di Pasquo earned his sixth win of the year and fourth in the last seven days. He made a career-best 31 saves in the victory. In the absence of starter Trey Augustine, Di Pasquo won each of his four starts, including being named the Great Lakes Invitational MVP on Monday in a win over No. 4 Western Michigan.
- Di Pasquo now owns a 1.32 GAA with a .945 save percentage and two shutouts this season in his six appearances.
- Vladislav Lukashevich's first career goal came on the biggest stage yet, on Wrigley Field. He has a goal and two assists on the season.
- Matt Basgall, the team's lone Chicago native, had an assist in the game. Nicklas Andrews, who assisted on the game-winner, picked up his eighth assist of the year, which ranks second among defensemen behind Basgall's 12.
