Fresh Faces
Michigan State has three new faces looking to make their dual debuts this weekend in redshirt freshman Darius Marines, graduate student Connor O'Neill, redshirt sophomore Luke Vanadia.
O'Neill is a Rutgers transfer looking to make his debut in the Green & White at 174 pounds after missing the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons due to injury. He was an NCAA qualifier for Rutgers at 174 in 2022 after placing eighth at the Big Ten Championships.
Marines is coming off his redshirt season in 2024-25 where he went 13-4 at the Kent State Open, the Purple Raider Open and the Edinboro Open. A native of Lansing, Marines was a four-time state champion in Michigan out of Detroit Catholic Central.
Vanadia is the twin brother of starting heavyweight Max Vanadia and is looking to make his first dual appearance as a Spartan this season. An injury during his redshirt season in 2023-24 limited his 2024-25 season to just four matches, but Vanadia is back after a second-place finish at the 2025 MSU Open last weekend.
Returning NCAA Qualifiers
Returning 2025 NCAA qualifiers Caleb Weiand and Max Vanadia are both in the FloWrestling rankings this week with Weiand checking in at #26 and Vanadia rounding out the heavyweight rankings at #32.
Weiand earned his first career NCAA Tournament victory last season earning an 8-4 decision in his pigtail bout against Citadel's Gylon Sims. Weiand went to sudden victory with Cornell's Marcello Milani in consolations. He advanced to the NCAA Championships after wins over Maryland's Tyler Garvin and Iowa's Joey Cruz at the B1G Championships.
